Csehy Summer School of Music was founded in 1962 by Hungarian violin virtuoso Wilmos Csehy. We operate as a summer camp program on the campus of Houghton College in western New York. The goal of the camp is to help young people develop excellence in classical and traditional sacred music and to grow spiritually, while having the best time of their life.
At Csehy, young musicians ages 12-18 have many opportunities to study and perform classical and traditional sacred music. Private lessons, ensemble rehearsals, classes in music theory, and individual practice times are scheduled each day. Each week ends with a brand new concert featuring the orchestra, band, handbell choirs and vocal choir. Each session also includes recitals for solo and small group performances.
Campers experience spiritual growth as they participate in morning chapel and in evening singtime. Counselor led small group devotions provide time for deeper and more focused reflection on a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Each week culminates spiritually at the bonfire, where campers take the opportunity to share the areas where God is at work in their individual faith journey.
Additional activities designed to encourage social and emotional growth abound. Each day features free time when campers choose activities that suit their interests. Choices include swimming, hiking, ultimate Frisbee, board games, reading or napping. Other fun activities include skit night, clash day, singing for packages, and making friends from around the world.
